Data Centre Ops – Hands & Eyes Technician

Location: Warton (Lancashire)
Employment Type: On‑Site | Full‑Time / Dayshift

DXC Technology is committed to building diverse, inclusive teams. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and particularly encourage interest from women, underrepresented groups, and neurodivergent candidates. We offer reasonable adjustments throughout the hiring process and are dedicated to creating a supportive, accessible environment for everyone.

About the Role

We’re looking for a dependable, detail‑focused Hands & Eyes/Data Ops Technician to provide on‑site, first‑line support for customer equipment.

The role will be based in Warton, Lancashire but there will be an expectation to travel to Barrow in Furness from time to time to attend workshops.

You’ll be the physical presence for remote engineering teams—performing visual checks, basic hardware actions, and equipment handling to ensure smooth operations and rapid issue resolution.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical curiosity, a responsible mindset, and a desire to work in a secure data‑centre environment.

What You’ll Do

As the on‑site Hands & Eyes Technician, you will:

  • Visually inspect equipment status indicators (LEDs) and report findings to customers.
  • Perform power‑cycles and physical resets based on detailed written instructions.
  • Verify power and cabling connectivity, ensuring all cables are correctly seated.
  • Test cable paths according to provided standards and procedures.
  • Connect crash carts (KVM) to assist with diagnosing failed reboots or hardware issues.
  • Insert or mount physical media to support system builds or troubleshooting.
  • Activate hardware controls as requested by customers.
  • Replace hot‑swappable components as guided by written intervention plans.

What You Bring

Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of IT operations in large organisations.
  • General technical aptitude with interest in hardware and data‑centre environments.
  • Basic knowledge of server hardware and peripherals.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, MS Office, and general PC hardware.
  • Basic networking knowledge (cables, ports, link lights, connectivity checks).

Personal Attributes

  • High level of reliability, responsibility, and professional integrity.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures precisely.
  • Calm, flexible approach when dealing with unexpected issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Customer‑focused and able to manage expectations effectively.
  • Fluency in English and the local language (spoken and written).

Preferred (but not required)

  • Previous data‑centre operations experience.
  • Familiarity with data‑centre processes, security protocols, and workflows.
  • Technical certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, N+, hardware or vendor certifications).
  • A technical degree or relevant vocational qualification.

Why Join Us?

  • Work at a high‑security, enterprise‑grade data‑centre supporting major customers.
  • Hands‑on technical exposure with training provided for specialised equipment.
  • A role that values precision, reliability, and continuous learning.
  • Become an essential part of a team responsible for keeping critical systems running.

At DXC Technology, we believe strong connections and community are key to our success. Our work model prioritizes in-person collaboration while offering flexibility to support wellbeing, productivity, individual work styles, and life circumstances. We’re committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

Recruitment fraud is a scheme in which fictitious job opportunities are offered to job seekers typically through online services, such as false websites, or through unsolicited emails claiming to be from the company. These emails may request recipients to provide personal information or to make payments as part of their illegitimate recruiting process. DXC does not make offers of employment via social media networks and DXC never asks for any money or payments from applicants at any point in the recruitment process, nor ask a job seeker to purchase IT or other equipment on our behalf. More information on employment scams is available here.
