We're looking for an experienced Applications Architect to join our Digital Applications Transformation team. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in complex transformation programmes. We’re passionate about building diverse, inclusive teams and actively encourage applications from women, underrepresented groups, and neurodivergent candidates, with support and adjustments available throughout the hiring process.

You'll work at the heart of major business and technology change initiatives, partnering with architects, engineers and business leaders to design solutions that deliver real value. Whether you're helping modernise core mainframe platforms, defining enterprise-wide architecture roadmaps, or guiding development teams through delivery, you'll be instrumental in shaping the future of our clients' technology ecosystems. The Solution Architect is responsible for designing and delivering end-to-end technical solutions aligned with business requirements and enterprise architecture standards. The role bridges the gap between business needs and technology, ensuring scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions that support digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities

Client-Side Application Management

  • Assess and design secure deployment models for desktop and end-user applications.
  • Determine application installation, configuration, packaging, lockdown, and security requirements.
  • Work with third-party packaging suppliers to ensure applications are delivered according to security and operational standards.
  • Support software lifecycle management, including upgrades, patching, and version control.

Server-Side Application Services

  • Ensure application resilience, performance, and operational sustainability.

Application Modernisation & Innovation

  • Identify opportunities for application modernization and service improvement.
  • Support the introduction of new business applications and emerging technologies.
  • Evaluate application migration and hosting opportunities for new customers.
  • Assess application portability, data migration requirements, and security implications when onboarding new services.
  • Contribute to the future expansion of bespoke application development capabilities.

Security & DevSecOps

  • Apply security-by-design principles throughout the application lifecycle.
  • Work with DevSecOps pipelines to support secure application delivery and deployment automation.
  • Ensure applications comply with security accreditation, vulnerability remediation, and governance requirements.
  • Collaborate with security architects and operational teams to continuously improve application security posture.

Agile Delivery

  • Operate within a SAFe Agile delivery framework.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
  • Collaborate with product owners, development teams, infrastructure teams, and customer stakeholders to deliver business value.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong relationships with customer architects, technical authorities, and delivery teams.
  • Support architecture reviews, design assurance activities, and governance forums.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on application architecture and hosting strategies.
