Senior Project Manager — Infrastructure, Network & Applications
- Job ID: 51587972
- Kategorie: Service and Program / Project Management Group
- Beschäftigungsart: Full time

Job Description:
About the role
You will deliver a rolling portfolio of projects for New Zealand Steel across infrastructure, network and applications — server and platform refresh, network upgrade and segmentation, cloud migration, application upgrades and integration work, and the technical projects that sit behind them.
This is a hands-on delivery role, not a programme oversight one. You will typically have several projects running concurrently at different stages, each with its own project team, sponsor and reporting line. You need to be comfortable moving between them without dropping detail, and comfortable being the single point of accountability for each.
What you will do
Project delivery
- Own delivery of multiple concurrent infrastructure, network and application projects from initiation through to closure, applying the appropriate methodology for the work.
- Produce and maintain the delivery artefacts that hold a project together — plan, schedule, budget, resource forecast, RAID, dependency map and change register — at a standard that supports decisions rather than just satisfying a template.
- Plan and sequence work around plant availability, approved change windows and scheduled maintenance and shutdown periods, in coordination with the client's operations and change functions.
- Own project financials: forecast against approved budget, track burn, and raise variances early with a proposed course of action attached.
- Manage scope through formal change control, including identifying, scoping and pricing change requests, and negotiating them with the client.
- Drive quality through the lifecycle — requirements definition, design review and approval, test governance, change and release approval, and post-implementation review.
- Assemble and mobilise project teams for each engagement, drawing on onshore specialists, offshore delivery centre capacity and third-party vendors, and set the working rhythm across those time zones.
Client and governance
- Run the governance cadence for your projects — project checkpoints, monthly delivery reviews, and steering or change advisory forums as required.
- Report status, risk and issues in language the audience can act on, and escalate through both the client's and DXC's chains before a problem becomes a surprise.
- Act as the interface between technical teams and business stakeholders, translating in both directions.
- Contribute to the account's forward view — improvement opportunities, technology refresh planning and the estimates that support them.
- Support pre-sales and account growth where your delivery knowledge is relevant: estimating, delivery approach, SoW input and proposal response.
Team and vendor leadership
- Lead project teams of mixed composition and size, comprising DXC onshore and offshore staff, client resources and third-party contributors. These are matrixed project teams rather than direct reports.
- Set clear direction, allocate work, and hold team members to their commitments.
- Coach less experienced project staff, and provide input to performance and development conversations run by their line managers.
- Manage third-party vendors and subcontractors delivering into your projects, including performance against contracted obligations.
- Coordinate with hardware and software vendors on lead times, release schedules, defect resolution and dependency management.
- Approve project-related purchases, tooling and licences within your delegated financial authority [insert DFA limit].
What you will bring
Essential
- 8+ years managing IT projects, with a demonstrated track record of running several small to mid-size projects concurrently.
- Delivery experience across infrastructure and network work — data centre and server refresh, network and connectivity upgrades, cloud migration, end-user compute, or equivalent — and across application projects such as upgrades, migrations and integration.
- Enough technical grounding to interrogate a design, challenge an estimate and understand what your engineers are telling you. You are not expected to be the architect.
- Experience delivering with distributed or offshore delivery teams, ideally across India and/or the Philippines.
- Sound commercial and contractual judgement: SoW interpretation, change request scoping and negotiation, budget and margin management.
- Proven ability to hold your position with senior client stakeholders, including when the message is unwelcome.
- Excellent written and verbal communication — a status report an executive will read, and a plan a delivery team will use.
- Existing right to work in New Zealand.
Highly desirable
- Project delivery in a manufacturing, heavy industry, mining, utilities or other continuous-operations environment, where change windows are dictated by production.
- Exposure to OT/IT environments, plant networks or industrial control system adjacency, and an understanding of why those constraints are not negotiable.
- Managed services or outsourced account experience, where projects run alongside an established BAU service.
- Working knowledge of ITSM/ITIL change, release and configuration process.
- Certification in one or more of: PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, ITIL v4, SAFe.
- A tertiary qualification in a technology, engineering or business discipline — or an equivalent delivery track record. We are more interested in what you have delivered than where you studied.
How you work
- You bring the bad news early, with options attached.
- You are comfortable when the requirement is not yet clear, and you make it clear rather than waiting for someone else to.
- You plan for the cutover, not just the build.

Recruitment fraud is a scheme in which fictitious job opportunities are offered to job seekers typically through online services, such as false websites, or through unsolicited emails claiming to be from the company. These emails may request recipients to provide personal information or to make payments as part of their illegitimate recruiting process. DXC does not make offers of employment via social media networks and DXC never asks for any money or payments from applicants at any point in the recruitment process, nor ask a job seeker to purchase IT or other equipment on our behalf.
